Our son was fatally injured while in the hands of a daycare operator who failed to follow the rules. It has been our objective since to have our legislation changed to be sure home day care operators have sufficient liability insurance, training and annual inspections by the state. The first two objectives are in the process of going through the Senate and the House, but we are constantly being told there are not enough funds for annual inspections, yet most other states can provide annual inspections. One excuse was "to stringent rules and we will lose some home day cares." The safety of our children is at stake since registered day care providers are on the honor system when they apply and no inspections are guaranteed. Parents need to be informed of the PA state stars system and use this as the guidelines for choosing a day care provider.
